by Dave Elliott

HBO Max has released a little clip of James Gunn’s upcoming DC Comics series Peacemaker has arrived online today, which is due to premiere in January 2022 on the streaming service in the US and other territories. We still don’t know where it’ll land in the UK…

The eight-episode action-comedy sees John Cena reprise his role from ‘The Suicide Squad’ movie to star in the series. Set after the events of the movie, the series explores the origins of Peacemaker and his subsequent missions, a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

In the clip, we see Cena alongside Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee, who reprise their roles from the film as ARGUS agent Emilia Harcourt and John Economos, a warden of Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary and an aide to Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. They are joined by Chukwudi Iwuji (‘Designated Survivor’) who plays Waller’s No. 1, Clemson Murn, and Danielle Brooks (‘Orange Is the New Black’) as new ARGUS recruit, Leota Adebayo.

Other cast includes Robert Patrick (‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘The X-Files’ ) as Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s father; And Freddie Stroma (‘Harry Potter films’, ‘Pitch Perfect’) as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, a district attorney and crimefighter who can quickly heal from injuries. Recurring guest stars include Lochlyn Munro (‘Riverdale’, ‘Charmed’) as Larry Fitzgibbon, Annie Chang (‘Shades of Blue’) as Detective Sophie Song and Christopher Heyerdahl (‘Hell on Wheels’, ‘Sanctuary’) as Captain Locke.

‘The Suicide Squad’ acclaimed writer/director James Gunn writes all episodes and directs multiple episodes, including the first. The series is exec produced by Gunn alongside film producer Peter Safran, with Cena as co-EP. The show is the first in the DC Extended Cinematic Universe.

Peacemaker‘ premieres in January 2022 on HBO Max in all locations where the streaming service is available. We don’t know where it’ll land in the UK, but if you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
