‘YOU’: Netflix Renews Drama For Season 4

by Dave Elliott

Ahead of the highly-anticipated 3rd Season premiere this Friday, Netflix has announced they have renewed ‘YOU’ for a 4th Season already!

Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, “What would you do for love?” Joe Goldberg is a man who will do just about anything when love is at stake.

The show began following brilliant bookstore manager Joe (Penn Badgley – ‘Gossip Girl’) who crossed paths with “Beck” (Elizabeth Lail – ‘Once Upon a Time’) an aspiring writer. Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly became an obsession as he quietly and strategically removed every obstacle – and person – in his way…

The 2nd Season saw Joe in the city of Los Angeles, with a new identity, “Will”, looking for love again, which is handy as he meets her… quite literally! The object of “Will’s” interest was Love Quinn, played by Victoria Pedretti (‘Haunting Of Hill House’). Love was an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store and is uninterested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She was also tending to a deep grief – and when she meets “Will”, she sensed a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.

As we head into Season 3, Joe and Love, now married and raising their baby, have moved to the balmy Northern California enclave of Madre Linda, where they’re surrounded by privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers and Insta-famous biohackers. Joe is committed to his new role as a husband and dad, but fears Love’s lethal impulsiveness. And then there’s his heart. Could the woman he’s been searching for all this time live right next door? Breaking out of a cage in a basement is one thing. But the prison of a picture-perfect marriage to a woman who’s wise to your tricks? Well, that’ll prove a much more complicated escape.

The cast this season includes Saffron Burrows (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘Mozart in the Jungle’), Tati Gabrielle (‘The 100’), Dylan Arnold (‘Nashville’), Shalita Grant (‘Search Party’, ‘NCIS: New Orleans’), Travis Van Winkle (‘The Last Ship’, ‘Instinct’), Scott Speedman (‘Animal Kingdom’, ‘Last Resort’), Michaela McManus (‘The Village’, ‘SEAL Team’), Shannon Chan-Kent (‘Good Trouble’), Ben Mehl (‘The Good Wife’), Chris O’Shea (‘Madam Secretary’) and Christopher Sean (‘Days of Our Lives’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’).

“Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life,” commented Sera Gamble, Executive Producer, and Showrunner. “We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past 3 seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4.”

‘YOU’ comes from Greg Berlanti (DC/CW shows, ‘Riverdale’) and Sera Gamble (‘The Magicians’, ‘Aquarius’, ‘Supernatural’) who serve as writers and exec producers, with Gamble as showrunner. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.

YOU‘ Season 3 premieres Friday, 15th October 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
