‘Hanna’: Amazon Drama Will End Season 3 This November

The upcoming 3rd Season of Amazon drama Hanna will be its last the creator/showrunner has announced. This seems to be a creative decision rather than a cancellation.

“If you look back at when I was talking about the second season, I talked about how it needed ‘the third act,’” commented creator/showrunner  David Farr in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I come from the theatre originally, and I always have full act structure in my head to how a piece of drama plays out. And in this case, I felt that there was this very clear arc.”

The series began following 15-year-old Hanna (Esmé Creed-Miles, ‘Mister Lonely’), who was raised in total seclusion in the remote woods of Eastern Europe, and spent her entire young life training to fight those who hunt her and her mercenary father, Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman, ‘The Killing’). Her survivalist skills are finally tested when she and Erik are separated upon their discovery by a rogue CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (Mireille Enos, ‘The Killing’) and her team of agents. Hanna had no choice but to embark on a perilous journey alone across Europe as she seeks to reunite with her father and evade and ultimately take down the dangerous agents who targeted them, only to discover she was created to be an assassin by a sinister Utrax programme…

At the end of Season 1, Hanna discovers she is not the only young woman with unparalleled skill and elite training to emerge from of the Utrax programme. Season 2 sees her risk her freedom to rescue her friend Clara (Yasmin Monet Prince) from the clutches of the Utrax programme at their new facility, The Meadows, run by John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney) and his second in command, Leo Garner (Anthony Welsh). Hanna found help in the unlikely form of her previous nemesis, CIA agent Marissa Wiegler who had to protect both herself and Hanna from the ruthless organisation she once trusted. Yet as Hanna delved deeper into the elusive world of The Meadows and meets others like herself, including Sandy (Áine Rose Daly) and Jules (Gianna Kiehl), she began to question her role in the larger context of Utrax’s assassin programme and ultimately, where she truly belonged.

As we head into Season 3, Hanna is now secretly trying to destroy Utrax from the inside and free herself from its grasp with the help of her previous nemesis, Wiegler. Together they have coerced high-ranking Utrax agent Carmichael into aiding their mission, but her fellow young assassins, Sandy and Jules, as well as new foes are starting to suspect Hanna’s plot. As Hanna moves closer to her goal, she begins to uncover not only a world-changing agenda but the true power behind Utrax that stands between her and freedom.

The 3rd and final season sees Ray Liotta join the cast as Gordon Evans, a respected former military man and intelligence operative who wields incredible insider power. Evans sees himself as a visionary with a rigid moral code, a true patriot who will do what needs to be done to protect his country.

The drama is written by David Farr, who also serves as Executive Producer. Tom Coan serves as Executive Producer for NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements also serve as Executive Producers, alongside Scott Nemes.

Hanna‘ Season 3 premieres Wednesday, 24th November 2021 on Amazon Prime Video UK and worldwide.
