Universal Pictures has released a short 5-min film online called ‘Jurassic World Dominion: The Prologue’, directed by Dominion director and co-writer Colin Trevorrow. The footage is not featured in the film itself but is separate original content which serves as the beginning of a story that will be continued in theatres next summer.

‘The Prologue’ rockets audiences back 65 million years into the past to experience the world before humans existed, and offers a glimpse of a world in which dinosaurs are living among us. It features seven new species of dinosaurs that have never been seen in a Jurassic film before, created by the legendary Industrial Light & Magic, which has created visual effects for every Jurassic film, including ‘Jurassic World Dominion’. ‘The Prologue’ is scored by Oscar winner Michael Giacchino, composer of ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ and ‘Jurassic World Dominion’.

‘Jurassic World Dominion’ is set around five years after the events of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’, and if you remember the ending to that film, promises to set up a whole new direction for the Jurassic franchise. Dinosaurs are now out in the wider world following the prehistoric animals being set loose at the Lockwood mansion. To deal with this new reality, the film brings together a cast from across the Jurassic franchise, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard starring as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, alongside Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum, who reprise their roles as Dr. Ellie Sattler, Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ian Malcolm. BD Wong also returns as Dr. Henry Wu.

Other cast includes Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (‘Oh Jerome, No’, ‘The Get Down’), Dichen Lachman (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’) and DeWanda Wise (‘She’s Gotta Have It’).

The film, which comes from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, sees the return of director Colin Trevorrow, who also serves as executive producer with Steven Spielberg. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley also return as producers. Alexandra Derbyshire joins as executive producer. Joining the Jurassic team for the first time is Emily Carmichael, who has crafted the ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ screenplay with Colin Trevorrow. They worked from a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, who together co-wrote ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’.

‘Jurassic World Dominion’ was originally set to be released this year, but due to the pandemic throwing all the release schedules up in the air, the film got moved to 2022. However, if you are a gamer, and would like to scratch that Jurassic itch, you could try checking out ‘Jurassic World Evolution 2’, which has recently been released from Frontier Developments, which allows you to manage your own Jurassic Park, and play around in the movie world.

‘Jurassic World Dominion’ is set to land in UK cinemas from Friday, 10th June 2022.
