‘Moon Knight’: Disney+ Releases Trailer & March Premiere Date For Marvel Series Starring Oscar Isaac

by Dave Elliott

Disney+ has released a trailer for their next big Marvel tv show, Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac in the title role, which premieres this March on the streaming service.

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

‘Moon Knight’ stars Oscar Isaac in the lead role of Steven/Marc/Moon Knight. You may also have spotted Ethan Hawke in the trailer who plays Arthur Harrow, a cult leader who encourages Spector to embrace his inner darkness. May Calamawy (‘Ramy’) also stars.

The character of Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench & Don Perlin and first appeared in the 1975 comic Werewolf by Night. The tv version seems to differ a little from the character in the comic books, as often happens with these adaptations. In the comic version, Marc Spector is an ex-CIA agent who finds himself working as a mercenary in Eygpt for a terrorist named Bushman. When the pair stumble across an archaeological dig full of valuables, Bushman turns on Spector and leaves him for dead. Crawling to a nearby ancient tomb, Spector is saved by the Egyptian deity Khonshu. After smashing Bushman’s operations, he returns to New York, creating the costumed hero, Moon Knight aka “The Fist of Khonshu”. To distance himself from his past, Spector invents two new identities: millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. However, he finds himself struggling with those multiple personalities and his amoral inclinations.

‘Moon Knight’ is the first new Marvel solo character to have his introduction in their own Disney+ series, but there are more to follow. Also coming this year are ‘She-Hulk’, played by the amazing Tatiana Maslany, and ‘Ms. Marvel’, played by newcomer Iman Vellani. That will be followed in late 2022 by ‘Secret Invasion’, which sees Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn and Cobie Smulders reprise their MCU roles as Nick Fury, Talos and Maria Hill, ending the year with the much anticipated ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’. At some point after that, we also have the ‘Ironheart’ series, ‘Armor Wars’, and the, currently untitled, Wakanda series.

Mohamed Diab and the team of Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead directed the six episodes. Jeremy Slater is the head writer, and Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Mohamed Diab, Jeremy Slater and Oscar Isaac are the executive producers. Grant Curtis, Trevor Waterson and Rebecca Kirsch serve as co-executive producers.

Moon Knight‘ premieres Wednesday, 30th March 2022 on Disney+ worldwide.
