‘Russian Doll’: Season 2 Gets April Premiere Date

by Dave Elliott

Brilliant Netflix series Russian Doll has landed an April premiere date for Season 2 the streaming service has announced.

Season one of the mind-bending comedy followed a young woman named Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honour at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City. Nadia is something of an anti-hero who found that she is stuck in a loop. She was living the same night over and over again and couldn’t seem to get out of her own way.

The second season begins with a bit of a time jump. It’s four years later, and Nadia, alongside Alan (Charlie Barnett), who was also stuck in the time loop, have managed to free themselves from their Groundhog Day-esque existence. Unfortunately, discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds the pair delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first, they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure, but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.

New cast joining Lyonne and Barnett for season two include Emmy winner Annie Murphy (‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’, ‘Schitt’s Creek’), along with Sharlto Copley (‘District 9’, ‘Chappie’, ‘Powers’).

The series is co-created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland (‘Terriers’, ‘Bachelorette’), who all serve as executive producers, with Headland and Lyonne as writers. Production comes from Universal Television, Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, JAX Media and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Russian Doll‘ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 20th April 2022 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
