Sky has picked up the much talked about HBO Max series ‘Peacemaker‘, which sees John Cena reprise his role as the character from James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ movie, to air on Sky Max & the NOW streaming service this March.
Picking up where 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ left off, the action-packed series finds Peacemaker returning home after a miraculous recovery from his encounter with Bloodsport – only to discover that his freedom comes at a price… The series explores the origins of Peacemaker and his subsequent missions, a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
Cena stars in the title role alongside Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee, who reprise their roles from the film as ARGUS agent Emilia Harcourt and John Economos. They are joined by Chukwudi Iwuji (‘Designated Survivor’) who plays Clemson Murn, the leader of a new team who reports directly to Waller, and Danielle Brooks (‘Orange Is the New Black’) as new ARGUS recruit, Leota Adebayo.
Also starring are Robert Patrick (‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘The X-Files’ ) who plays Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s father, and Freddie Stroma (‘Harry Potter films’, ‘Pitch Perfect’) as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Peacemaker’s “best friend” and “crimefighter” who can quickly heal from injuries… If you’re a fan of ‘Arrow’, this is a very different version of Adrian Chase!
Recurring guest stars include Annie Chang (‘Shades of Blue’) as Detective Sophie Song; Lochlyn Munro (‘Riverdale’, ‘Charmed’) as Song’s police partner, Larry Fitzgibbon; Christopher Heyerdahl (‘Hell on Wheels’, ‘Sanctuary’) as Captain Locke; Nhut Le (‘Stardumb’) as Judomaster: a bodyguard who specializes in martial arts; Elizabeth Ludlow (‘Satisfaction’, ‘Another Life’) as Keeya Adebayo, Leota’s wife; And Rizwan Manji (‘Schitt’s Creek’) as Jamil, a janitor who works at the hospital where Peacemaker was admitted.
‘The Suicide Squad’ acclaimed writer/director James Gunn writes all episodes and directs multiple episodes, including the first. The series is exec produced by Gunn alongside film producer Peter Safran, with Cena as co-EP. The show is the first in the DC Extended Cinematic Universe. The series has already been renewed for Season 2.
‘Peacemaker‘ Season 1 premieres Tuesday, 22nd March 2022 at 10pm on Sky Max & the NOW streaming service. All episodes will be available from that date via Sky On Demand and NOW.
