‘Hacks’: Prime Video UK Picks Up Emmy-Winning HBO Max Series With April UK Premiere Date
Prime Video UK has picked up the HBO Max’s Emmy-winning series ‘Hacks‘, starring Jean Smart, to premiere this April on the streaming service.
‘Hacks’ explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, who is trying to salvage her waning career, and Ava (Hannah Einbinder), an entitled, outcast 25-year-old television writer. Vance is losing her relevance, and the head of the casino wants to reduce the number of her performances. Ava has been ostracised for an “insensitive tweet” and is struggling to find work. The duo realises they could help each other and decide to team up… Albeit reluctantly…
In addition to Smart and Einbinder, the series stars series regular Carl Clemons-Hopkins (‘Chicago Med’, ‘The Chi’) as Marcus, Deborah’s chief operating officer. Recurring guest stars include Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Meg Stalter and Rose Abdoo.
In August 2021 the comedy was renewed for a second season, which isn’t a huge surprise given the armful of awards it has picked up. The series picked up both Outstanding Directing and Writing for a Comedy Series, alongside an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for Smart. She also picked up the TCA for Individual Achievement in Comedy, a SAG for Outstanding Performance, and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series. In addition, the show landed a Golden Globe for Best Television Series.
‘Hacks’ is created and showrun by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky. It is executive produced by Downs and Aniello via their Paulilu banner, Statsky via First Thought Productions, as well as Emmy winners Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
‘Hacks‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 1st April 2022 on Prime Video UK.
