Premieres Coming To Disney+ UK In April 2022

As we hurtle towards Easter, Disney+ UK continues to drop all sorts of varied content for your viewing pleasure! ‘NCIS’ finally returns to the UK for Season 19, alongside the wonderfully weird comedy ‘Dollface’ which is back for a second season. They also introduce us to a ‘Single Drunk Female’, along with a new series from a very familiar family… Here is a breakdown of the new shows coming to Disney+ UK next month.

Disney+ Originals & UK Exclusive April Highlights

Better Nate Than Ever (Film) – 1st April 2022

13-year-old Nate Foster has big Broadway dreams. There’s only one problem — he can’t even land a part in the school play. But when his parents leave town, Nate and his best friend Libby sneak off to the Big Apple for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to prove everyone wrong. A chance encounter with Nate’s long-lost Aunt Heidi turns his journey upside-down, and together they must learn that life’s greatest adventures are only as big as your dreams. Based on the award-winning novel.

The Reason I Jump (Film) – 1st April 2022

‘The Reason I Jump’ is based on the bestselling book written by Naoki Higashida, a non-speaking autistic Japanese boy. The film weaves Naoki’s writings around stories of non-speaking autistic people across the globe, immersing the audience in their unique sensory worlds, full of intensity, richness and beauty and sometimes shadows and terror.

NCIS, Season 19 – 6th April 2022

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humour, it’s a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. The first three episodes will drop at once, which further episodes airing weekly. The previous 18 seasons will also be available to stream from the launch date.

Single Drunk Female – 6th April 2022

After a public flame-out at a New York media company, 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol. Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all of the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend, who is now dating her ex, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.

The Kardashians – 14th April 2022

The family you know and love (or love to hate…) is here with a brand new series, giving an all-access pass into their lives. Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie bring the cameras back to give truth to their stories. From the intense pressures of running billion-dollar businesses to the hilarious joys of playtime and school drop-offs, this series brings viewers into the fold with a rivetingly honest story of love & life in the spotlight.

Sketchbook, Season 1 – 27th April 2022

An intimate instructional documentary series, ‘Sketchbook’ with Walt Disney Animation Studios takes us onto the desks and into the lives of talented artists and animators as they teach us how to draw a single iconic character from a Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Each episode focuses on a single artist illustrating a character that either they helped create or inspired them to want to be an artist at the Studio. As we learn the steps to drawing these characters, we also discover that the artists each have a unique story to tell about how they made their way to Disney and their chosen character. From the creators of “Chef’s Table,” this exclusive experience will give viewers of all ages a new understanding of how these beloved characters come to life on-screen while introducing them to a new cast of real-life characters along the way.

Other Notable Additions On Disney+ UK This Month

Alongside the various Originals and UK exclusives, there are, of course, more tv boxsets and films being added to the streaming service for you to rewatch, or see for the first time.

April is a solid month for the addition of tv boxsets you may have missed on their first airing elsewhere in the UK. As mentioned above, all eighteen seasons of ‘NCIS’ will join the service from 6th April alongside the premiere of the nineteenth season. Also arriving on the 6th are seasons one to three of Australian crime drama ‘Harrow’ starring Ioan Gruffudd. On the 13th April, we have both seasons of UK crime series ‘The Missing’, along with both seasons of US sitcom ‘The Mick’. On the 20th April, FX miniseries ‘Mrs. America’, starring Cate Blanchett, alongside both seasons of UK medical drama ‘Trust Me’, starring Jodie Whittaker (S1) and Alfred Enoch (S2). Lastly, on 27th April, one season sci-fi drama ‘The Passage’ lands, starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

On the film side, you can catch up with ‘David Brent: Life On The Road’ from 1st April, alongside 2012 movie ‘The Sweeney’. For those feeling the need for ‘Speed’, both the original and the (not so great) sequel land on the service from 15th April. And for you ‘Planet of Apes’ completists, 2011’s ‘Rise of the Planet of Apes’ swings onto the platform from 29th April joining the other ‘Apes’ films which are already there, along with the four more of the original 70s movies.
