‘The Winchesters’: CW Casts Meg Donnelly & Drake Rodger As John & Mary For ‘Supernatural’ Prequel Pilot

The CW has found their young John Winchester and Mary Campbell, as they announce Meg Donnelly & Drake Rodger have bagged the lead roles for ‘Supernatural’ prequel pilot, ‘The Winchesters’.

Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. ‘The Winchesters’ will be told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles reprising his role for the voiceover), and is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.

Meg Donnelly will play Mary Campbell. At 19 years old, Mary has been fighting the forces of darkness since she was a child. After losing someone close to her, the hardened hunter considers quitting the family business – until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John Winchester forces her to lead a new team.

Donnelly is probably best known for her role as Taylor Otto on the comedy ‘American Housewife’. She also stars in the Disney Channel’s ‘Zombies’ films, and will next appear in the Disney+ series *takes deep breath* ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’, the third season of which adds another subtitle – ‘Camp Rock’!

Drake Rodger plays John Winchester. Recently returned from Vietnam, the selfless and clearheaded John finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter.

Rodger has appeared in Paramount+ film ‘The In Between’, and is next due to appear in the movie ‘Quiet In My Town’.

They join the previously announced cast of Nida Khurshid (‘Station 19’) and newcomer Jojo Fleites. Khurshid plays Latika Desai, a fiercely intelligent and braver than she believes young hunter-in-training, whose research and problem-solving skills help her face her fears in battling dark forces. Fleites takes the role of the easygoing and confident Carlos Cervantez, who is a natural when it comes to fighting demons and a boost of positivity for the team as it takes on more serious threats.

The potential new series comes from Jensen and Danneel Ackles who executive produce through their company, Chaos Machine Productions, which is under an overall deal with WBTV who made the original series, and will co-produce. The pilot will be written and produced by Robbie Thompson, former co-executive producer of ‘Supernatural’, with Glen Winter (‘Supergirl’) directing and exec producing.

‘The Winchesters’ is only a pilot at the moment, so it’s very possible it may go no further than that. We’ll let you know if there is any more news!
