Misha Collins Cast As Two-Face/Harvey Dent In CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ Pilot

Misha Collins is sticking with The CW for his next tv gig as the ‘Supernatural’ actor reveals he will be playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the network’s ‘Gotham Knights’ pilot.

The potential series is set in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, where his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviours known as the Gotham Knights.

Collins revealed the information in a Twitter post, saying “I’ve asked if my version of the character could be wearing a beige trench coat over the grey suit. (I’m just not sure I’ll be comfortable in front of a camera without one.)”

Misha Collins is, of course, best known for his role as the trench coat wearing angel Castiel in ‘Supernatural’, and this marks his first tv role since the series ended.

Whilst we don’t know how Harvey Dent will be portrayed in the series, he is an interesting addition to the line-up, as the character has flipped between good and bad in the comic book. During the 2002/3 ‘Batman: Hush’ storyline, Dent underwent plastic surgery, eradicating the Two-Face personality. He is even trusted by Batman to stand in as Gotham’s protector when the Caped Crusader leaves the city for a year during the events of the outstanding ’52’ run. Unfortunately, when Batman returns, Dent feels pushed out, and ultimately the Two-Face persona returns.

Collins would join the previously announced cast of Fallon Smythe (‘I Didn’t Do It’, ‘Grown-ish’) and Tyler DiChiara (‘Relish’, ‘The Virgin of Highland Park’). Smythe is set to play Harper Row, a streetwise, acerbic and often underestimated, the blue-haired bisexual is a gifted engineer who can fix anything. But what Harper wants most of all is to repair the broken lives of her and her brother, Cullen, the only person she trusts. DiChiara plays Cullen, who, after years of hiding his true self from an abusive parent, the transgender teen is tired of being polite and agreeable. Clever and adept at reading human nature, Cullen is ready to fight his own battles. Both characters have appeared as Batman allies in the comic books.

The one big question mark at the moment is which of Batman’s “adopted sons” the series will use. The “rebellious” part would suggest Jason Todd would be the most likely candidate, who we have already seen being played by Curran Walters, alongside Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, and Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake on ‘Titans’. However, it is likely this would be a different version of the character unconnected to ‘Titans’ and would be played by a different actor if that is the case. The other candidate would be Damian Wayne, although he is Bruce’s blood-relative, not adopted, so that probably rules him out. Another possibility is the make up a new character purely for the series, although that would seem like an odd way to go, given there have a bunch of established characters to choose from already.

The project comes from Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash, who all worked on ‘Batwoman’. Stoteraux and Fiveash, who also worked on ‘Gotham’, exec produce along with Berlanti Productions Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. Abrams co-executive produces.

‘Gotham Knights’ is currently only a pilot so may go nowhere, but we’ll let you know if we hear more.
