Apple TV+ has released a trailer for upcoming drama ‘The Essex Serpent‘, which stars Claire Danes & Tom Hiddleston, and premieres this May on the streaming service.
Set in Victorian England, and based on the novel by Sarah Perry, the series follows London widow Cora (Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms a surprising bond of science and scepticism with the local pastor (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.
This is the first of two projects Hiddleston is doing for Apple between bouts of ‘Loki’ for Disney+. He is also due to star in ‘The White Darkness‘, a new Apple Original limited series based on the life of explorer Henry Worsley. It will be the first major TV role for Claire Danes since coming off her eight-season Emmy and Golden Globe-winning run on ‘Homeland’.
Alongside Danes (‘Homeland’) and Hiddleston (‘Loki’), the series stars Frank Dillane (‘Fear the Walking Dead’) as Luke Garrett, Hayley Squires (‘Collateral’, ‘Adult Material’) as Martha, Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter films, ‘The Tunnel’) as Stella Ransome, Jamael Westman (Hamilton, ‘Anne Boleyn’) as Dr. George Spencer, Dixie Egerickx (‘Patrick Melrose’, ‘The Secret Garden’) as Jo Ransome, Michael Jibson (‘Quiz’, ‘COBRA’) as Matthew Evansford and Ryan Reffell as John Ransome.
‘The Essex Serpent’ is directed by BAFTA Award-nominee Clio Barnard (‘The Selfish Giant’), written by BAFTA Award-nominee Anna Symon (‘Deep Water’, ‘Mrs Wilson’). The pair also exec produce alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Patrick Walters. The series is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films.
‘The Essex Serpent‘ premieres Friday, 13th May 2022, with two episodes, on Apple TV+ globally. Further episodes will premiere weekly.
