Today, is, of course, Star Wars Day… May The Fourth Be With You. So to help celebrate, Disney+ has dropped the full trailer for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi‘, the highly-anticipated limited Star Wars series that premieres 27th May on the streaming service.
‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. They are joined by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse who reprise their prequel trilogy roles as Owen Lars and Aunt Beru. Cast for the series includes Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Sung Kang (Power), Simone Kessell (The Crossing), Maya Erskine (PEN15), O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Benny Safdie.
The new trailer doesn’t give a whole lot more away, but we do get some more footage of the deadly Inquisitors, who seem to be hunting Obi-Wan across the galaxy. There is also the briefest of shots showing Kumail Nanjiani, who seems to be dressed in Jedi robes. We know some of the Jedi managed to escape Order 66, so it would make sense to see the Inquisitors hunting down other Jedi as they search for Kenobi. The trailer ends with a few close-up shots and the familiar breathing tones of a certain dark lord of the Sith… Should also give a mention to Uncle Owen, who manages to burn Kenobi with a comment hotter than Tatooine’s twin suns when the Jedi insists Luke has to be trained. “Like you trained his father?”, he replies… ouch…
