HBO has released the first trailer for ‘Westworld‘ Season 4, as the epic sci-fi drama returns this June on HBO in the USA and Sky Atlantic & NOW in the UK.
To recap where we’re at, the first season of the show was set in a futuristic theme park staffed by artificial beings, where guests of ‘Westworld’ could live out their wildest fantasies. However, the guests discovered “these violent delights have violent ends”, as the “hosts” began to run amok, and the human visitors found themselves in a place where anything could happen.
In the 2nd Season, the park was in full revolt as the hosts started to fight back, which resulted in a number of our synthetic friends escaping the confines of the park and into the “real world”. The 3rd Season picked up the story with lead revolutionary host Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) arriving in a futuristic neo-Los Angeles. It is here she meets Caleb (Aaron Paul) and discovers that the outside world places a similar low value on the lives of the working class as it does on artificial beings.
The 4th Season doesn’t have an official synopsis yet, but the trailer does at least give you a hint of who is returning. Maeve (Thandiwe Newton), Caleb (Aaron Paul) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), Ashley (Luke Hemsworth), Charlotte… or “Chalores” (Tessa Thompson), and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) all make an appearance. As does Ed Harris as… William?.. Or some version of him… If you remember how the third season ended, Maeve and Caleb worked together to kill Serac (Vincent Cassel), evil overlord of the “Rehoboam” AI program. Meanwhile, William was apparently killed by a robotic version of himself which was being controlled by “Chalores”, an amalgam of Charlotte and Dolores.
The drama was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy. Nolan & Joy executive producers with Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson. The series is produced by Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is based on the film written by Michael Crichton.
‘Westworld‘ Season 4 premieres Sunday, June 26, 2022, in the USA on HBO, and should be simulcast on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW on Monday, 27th June 2022 at 2am (due to the time difference), with a repeat in the evening.
