‘Reacher’: Season 2 Will Be Based On Book 11 “Bad Luck And Trouble”. Maria Sten To Return.
Amazon’s hit drama ‘Reacher‘ will be jumping forward a few books when it returns for Season 2 it has been revealed by lead actor Alan Ritchson.
The first season of ‘Reacher’ follows Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson – Titans, Smallville), a veteran military police investigator who has just recently entered civilian life. Reacher is a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served. When Reacher arrives in the small town of Margrave, Georgia, he finds a community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years. The cops immediately arrest him and eyewitnesses claim to place Reacher at the scene of the crime. While he works to prove his innocence, a deep-seated conspiracy begins to emerge, one that will require Reacher’s keen mind and hard-hitting fists to deal with. One thing above all is for sure: They picked the wrong guy to take the fall.
Posting on social media, Ritchson dropped the quote “O’Donnell put his hand in his pocket and came out with his brass knuckles. Ceramic knuckles, technically,” alongside a photo of him holding a copy of “Bad Luck and Trouble”, the 11th book in the Jack Reacher series, written by the legendary Lee Child.

The move from the 1st book (The Killing Floor) to the 11th book isn’t that much of a surprise, as writer and showrunner Nick Santora had already commented back in February that they might not stick with the same chronological order for the tv show. As most of the novels see Reacher in a new area and situation and can be read in any order, they could be fairly flexible, picking the stories they think would convert best to tv from the 26 (soon to be 27!) book run.
The short logline for Season 2 from Amazon says “When the members of Reacher’s old military unit start turning up dead, Reacher has just one thing on his mind – revenge.” However, if you want a little more detail, the description of the book on Amazon, says “You do not mess with Jack Reacher. He is as close to untraceable as a person can get. A loner, comfortable in his anonymity and solitude. So when a member of his old Army unit finds a way to contact him, he knows this has to be serious. You do not mess with the Special Investigators. In the past, the elite team always watched each other’s backs. Now one of them has shown up dead in the California desert and six more are missing. Reacher’s old buddies are in big trouble, and he can’t let that go.”
The other bit of ‘Reacher’ news to drop today was that Maria Sten will reprise her role as Frances Neagley, the private detective and former army investigator who was a member of Reacher’s squad. As this will be a new location and story, the rest of the cast will likely be new for this season (and probably only this season).
Season one of the drama has been something of a global hit for the streaming service, ranking among Prime Video’s top five most-watched series ever in the U.S. and globally. It has also been one of the most binged Original series ever on Prime Video, with many fans devouring all eight episodes of Season One in its first 24 hours of release.
