‘Heartstopper’ Renewed For 2 More Seasons At Netflix!

Netflix has renewed their smash hit Heartstopper for 2 more seasons, taking it to at least Season 3 the streaming service has announced.

When gentle Charlie and rugby-loving Nick meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.

Following an open casting that saw over 10,000 people audition, Kit Connor (‘Rocketman’, ‘His Dark Materials’) landed the role of Nick Nelson, a popular year 11 student with a gentle demeanour who befriends Charlie Spring, played by newcomer Joe Locke, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker in the year below. As their friendship blossoms both start to wonder, could there be something more?

The cast also includes Yasmin Finney (soon to be in ‘Doctor Who’) as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson.

Author of the original graphic novels, Alice Oseman, serves as writer and creator on the series. Euros Lyn (‘Sherlock’, ‘Doctor Who’) is the director. The drama is produced by See-Saw Films for Netflix, with Patrick Walters as exec producer.

Originally launched as a webcomic on Tumblr and Tapas, and amassing an extraordinary following, Oseman has since published four book volumes of the ‘Heartstopper’ series as graphic novels. The books were pronounced as “the queer graphic novel we wished we had at high school” by the Gay Times.

‘Heartstopper’ has not only been a massive hit for Netflix, landing a 100% Critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is ‘certified fresh’, but also had a huge effect on the original books and the talent. Since the launch of the series on Netflix, the Heartstopper weekly book sales in the US have increased 1700%, and Volume 1 is currently the number one YA fiction book in the US and featured on the NYT bestseller list. Talent Instagram followings have exploded with Kit Connor at 3.4M and Joe Locke at 2.5M, both had just over 100K followers a month prior to launch, and on TikTok, #heartstopper has now amassed over 4.3B views.

Furthermore, ‘Heartstopper’, for the fourth consecutive week, topped Variety’s Trending TV chart the week of May 9-15 (the Trending TV chat tracks audience interactions across Twitter including tweets, retweets, likes and hashtags). The series also reached the Netflix Top Ten list in 54 countries.

Heartstopper‘ Season 1 is available on Netflix UK and worldwide right now.
