‘Inside No. 9’ Renewed For Two More Seasons!
The wonderfully weird ‘Inside No. 9‘ has been renewed for two more seasons, taking it (appropriately) up to at least season nine the BBC has announced.
‘Inside No. 9’ is an anthology of darkly comic twisted tales by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, each one taking place behind a door marked “number 9”. Whether it’s a grand country house where a game of “sardines” leads to some chilling revelations in a wardrobe, or the flat of an apparently happy primary school teacher who becomes the victim of a good deed, these unpredictable tales feature high comedy and horror by turns.
Having launched in 2014, the series, which comes from Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, has gained huge critical acclaim, and has won an array of awards including Best Scripted Comedy at the 2021 Bafta TV Awards. Steve Pemberton received the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the 2019 Bafta TV Awards, and the series has also won two Bafta TV Craft Awards, two RTS Awards and many more.
“In the greatest plot twist ever, the BBC have commissioned another two series from us, taking “Inside No.9″ to series 9,” said Pemberton and Shearsmith. “Since 2014, it has been the greatest gift to conjure these stories into being and we are thrilled there’s still an appetite for more. What horrible surprises are there left to uncover? We remain as delighted and curious as you to find out.”
Series eight and nine will stay true to the show’s anthology format with each series containing six brand new half-hour films, each set in a different location. The style and tone change each week, combining a different mix of horror, thriller, drama and comedy – always aiming to surprise, delight, unnerve and amuse.
“We are doubly thrilled to announce two more series of the endlessly inventive Inside No 9 and look forward to discovering where the colossal comedy brains of Reece and Steve take us next, in 12 new instalments of a show now firmly established as an all-time great,” adds Commissioning Editor for the BBC, Seb Barwell.
‘Inside No. 9’ Seasons 8 and 9 are a BBC Studios Comedy Production created and written by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton. The Executive Producers are Josh Cole (Good Omens, Sally4Ever, Crashing) and Adam Tandy (The Thick Of It, Detectorists). The Producer is Kim Crowther (Midsomer Murders, The Worst Witch). The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Seb Barwell.
