It took a little while, but NBC has stepped in to rescue the cancelled CBS drama ‘Magnum P.I.‘ for two seasons of 10-episode each (so 20 new episodes in total.)
‘Magnum P.I.’ is a modern take on the classic series centring on Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez – ‘Scandal’, ‘Suicide Squad’), a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business.
Alongside Hernandez, the series stars Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins, Zachary Knighton as Orville “Rick” Wright, Stephen Hill as Theodore “T.C.” Calvin, Amy Hill as Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, and Tim Kang as HPD Detective Gordon Katsumoto.
Universal Television co-produces the drama with CBS Studios, so moving it to NBC required a deal to be made between the two parties Negotiations went down to the wire, as the options to pick up the cast for another season ran out at the end of June, so talks ran late into last night whilst they came to an agreement. NBC will air the series, with Universal TV handling international rights. CBS will hold the US domestic off-network rights. Given Universal retains the international rights, the series should remain on Sky Max in the UK.
‘Magnum P.I.‘, renewed for Seasons airs on Sky Max in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
