‘New Amsterdam’: 5th & Final Season Gets December UK Premiere On Sky Witness

Sky Witness is not stopping with ‘New Amsterdam‘, as Season 4 will run straight into the 5th and final season of the medical drama on the UK broadcaster.

Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama stars Ryan Eggold (‘The Blacklist’) as the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s medical director, who set out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin disrupted the status quo and proved he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.

As we head into Season 5, it has been a tumultuous year in which the leadership of New Amsterdam underwent a dramatic change…

However, now the idealistic and beloved Max Goodwin is back at the helm. As Max takes back the reins at New York City’s busiest public hospital, he must first address his own personal life, which was thrown into uncertainty at the conclusion of season four.

Bloom, Iggy and Reynolds rally around Max as he deals with the fallout from Helen’s decision. Bloom gives extra space to Leyla but she’s in for a surprise. Reynolds and Wilder help a young terminal patient realise his dream to “star” in a Bollywood show. Iggy has a breakthrough with a challenging patient.

Then, Max tests a bold new cost-saving programme that could help New Amsterdam; Wilder struggles with a patient’s decision to refuse life-saving surgery; Reynolds comes to a realisation about his father’s behaviours; Iggy takes the leap into online dating.

‘New Amsterdam’ is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” and his 15 years as medical director at the hospital. The drama is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah.
