The BBC Phenomenon The Traitors Could Return For Series Two

The UK has been hooked with the new gameshow that hit our screens in November 2022. People have been binge-watching the new show as word spread via social media and friends talking to each other. It really has been a phenomenon and people are instantly wanting a return to the Highlands as soon as possible.

However, you may be wondering what The Traitors show is and how does it work if you have never seen it before as it has some interesting rules.

What is The Traitors?

The BBC show is set in the Highlands of Scotland and is housed in an amazing castle with 22 contestants all looking to win a huge prize fund. Whilst at the castle the contestants will work together on missions to add money to the prize fund. The prize fund can be up to a massive £120,000 and that could be spread across several contestants or stolen by just one person.

Across the 22 contestants, there will be faithfuls and there will be traitors. The contestants who are chosen as traitors will be in charge of the game and have to go undetected throughout the game to win the prize money.

The traitors will conspire and convince “the faithfuls” they are also faithfuls as the contestants will vote each other off the show in the hope of finding a traitor. However, each night a traitor will murder one of the contestants in the night.

So each morning there are usually two fewer contestants who have a chance of winning the prize fund. However, they will have to hope that it was a traitor that went because if there is a traitor left in the final they will take the entire prize fund leaving the faithfuls bereft.

However, there is a twist at every turn at nearly every turn. There is no way that the contestants can settle in the castle which leads to more and more tension among the contestants.

The series is hosted by the amazing Claudia Winkleman who gets invested as much as a fan would do watching the show. She cares, she knows and encourages the other contestants on the missions more than the contestants themselves.

Will series 2 be on the way?

According to the site newbettingsites there is strong speculation that the hit TV show will be returning with new contestants to the castle in Scotland. Having just finished in December the show might not be on the way anytime soon.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the BBC about the series will be returning but it would be a huge mistake if they did not commission the series for a second one.

Yet there is speculation that the BBC has managed to secure a deal with production company Studio Lambert, who made the first series, to make a second series. A source told the Daily Star, “It was a no-brainer to commission another series. Everyone is hoping it will be even more popular by next year and become one of the biggest shows on TV,” they added. “Claudia absolutely loves the show and thinks it’s a brilliant format. It’s basically a done deal that she’ll be back.”

When will it be on our screens?

With the first series, such a hit and the rumours that the second series will be returning the question that is on everyone’s lips is when will it be back on our screens.

Having just finished the first series in December, the new series will not be back on the BBC anytime before the mid part of 2023.

It will be more likely that the show will return around the same time that it was released in 2022 which was November.

Could there be something to satisfy your traitor needs?

There certainly is! On January 12th there will be a US version of the show hosted by the fantastic Scottish thespian Alan Cumming and will feature both civilians and celebrities! It is an interesting twist that will keep fans on their toes about who will be a faithful and who will be a traitor.

With the celebrity element hitting the US screens this month, there are also strong rumours that in between the release of the second series there will be a full celebrity version coming to BBC very soon.

The celebrity version will be used for either Children in Need or for Comic Relief. However, fans will be happy to hear that Claudia Winkleman will still be hosting the show!
