‘Titans’ & ‘Doom Patrol’ To End With Season 4

The news which I think a lot of people had been expecting finally landed last night. HBO Max is ending DC shows Titans & Doom Patrol with their current 4th Seasons the US streaming service has announced.

‘Titans’ follows Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites), who emerges from the shadows as Nightwing to lead a band of heroes – including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and others. The story follows this group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging.

‘Doom Patrol’ reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of superheroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) and Cyborg aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade), all led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred, disfigured, and ostracized – until Niles Caulder brought the outcasts together.

“I’m immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew, and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all forty-nine episodes over the last five-plus years,” commented ‘Titans’ showrunner Greg Walker. “I couldn’t have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I’m incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they’ve built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.”

“To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons,” adds ‘Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver. “Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”

There are a lot of big changes going on with DC at the moment, following James Gunn and Peter Safran becoming joint-CEOs of DC Studios to oversee the entire creative direction of the DC universe across film, TV, and animation. However, we should make it clear, the ending of ‘Titans’ and ‘Doom Patrol’ was decided by Warner Bros Discovery prior to the Gunn/Safran appointment. “The decision to end the series precedes us,” commented Gunn on social media. “But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.” Gunn is due to make an announcement about their new vision for DC before the end of January 2023.

Both shows have yet to return in the UK due to HBO Max splitting the final seasons in half for both shows. The first halves have aired in the US, but don’t currently have a return date on the US streamer. Both Netflix, which airs ‘Titans’, and Lionsgate+ (formally Starzplay) which airs ‘Doom Patrol’ air them in the UK as boxsets, so will be waiting for the entire seasons to run in the USA first.

Titans‘ & ‘Doom Patrol‘ Season 4 do not yet have UK premiere dates, but if you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
