Cast Announced For ‘Trigger Point’ Season 2 As Filming Begins

As filming begins on Season 2 of the ITV1/ITVX drama Trigger Point which sees Vicky McClure back in the lead role as a police bomb disposal officer (Expo), the broadcaster has announced a number of actors who will join the returning star.

Season 2 of the series, which focused on the Expo officers in the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad, sees Lana ‘Wash’ Washington (McClure) just back from secondment training Ukrainian bomb disposal teams, but has not returned to active duty. She is giving a routine talk to security officers from major financial institutions about the issues surrounding bomb-centred terrorism, when there is a bomb attack in the heart of the city. Lana is closest to the incident, but is she ready to take it on?

“After such a great response to the first series of Trigger Point, we are so pleased to be back!” said McClure. “The scripts are filled to the brim with twists, turns, those explosive moments and along with our returning cast and brilliant new cast members it’s set to be an exciting shoot!”

Alongside McClure, the second season features returning cast members Nabil Elouahabi (‘Unforgotten’, ‘The Tower’) as Hass, Eric Shango (‘Suspicion’) as Danny, Mark Stanley (‘Happy Valley’, ‘The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe’) as DI Thom Youngblood, Kerry Godliman (‘After Life’, ‘Whitstable Pearl’) as Sonya Reeves, Kris Hitchen (‘Four Lives’) as John and Kevin Eldon (‘Sanditon’) as Jeff.

New cast joining the returning stars are Natalie Simpson (‘North Sea Connection’, ‘Outlander’) who plays DS Helen Morgan, Julian Ovenden (‘Bridgerton’) who plays Commander John Francis and Tomiwa Edun as Alex (‘Young Wallander’, ‘Trying’).

“Trigger Point is a television drama like no other. Centred on a great bunch of characters led by the magnetic Vicky McClure as the single-minded Expo Lana, it combines explosive action with a compelling thriller plot,” adds Executive Producer Mark Redhead. “It’s very exciting to be working with such a great team to create a gripping new series.”

The series is produced by HTM Television which is co-owned by Jed Mercurio and Hat Trick Productions. The series is executive produced by Mark Redhead (‘Stephen’, ‘Bloodlands’), Jessica Sharkey (‘Bloodlands’, ‘Derry Girls’) and Vicky McClure with Jed Mercurio (‘Line of Duty’, ‘Bodyguard’) and Jimmy Mulville (‘Bloodlands’, ‘Derry Girls’).

The new six-part series has been written by Simon Ashdown (‘Our House’, ‘EastEnders’), Amanda Duke (‘Treason’) and Daniel Brierley. It was created by Daniel Brierley. It is produced by Mat Chaplin (‘The Last Kingdom’) and directed by Jon East (‘Bloodlands’, ‘The Last Kingdom’) and Audrey Cooke (‘Bloodlands’, ‘DI Ray’). It is produced in association with BYO and All3Media International, who distribute the series internationally. The drama was commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, and was the best-performing drama of 2022, averaging 9.5m viewers per episode.

“I’m delighted to have commissioned a second series of Trigger Point and to be working again with Vicky McClure and the HTM Television production team,” said Polly Hill. “It’s the most compelling of dramas and I can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store for series two.”

Trigger Point‘ Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on ITV1 and ITVX. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
