‘Henpocalypse’: BBC Announces Cast For New Caroline Moran Comedy Coming To BBC Two/iPlayer

As filming begins, the BBC has released a first-look photo and announced the cast for Henpocalypse, a new comedy coming to BBC Two and iPlayer, created by Caroline Moran, which is centred around bridezilla Zara… whose hen-do is interrupted by the apocalypse…

The comedy follows bridezilla Zara and her fellow working-class West Midlander hens who face a struggle for survival while they wait out the breakdown of human civilisation in an isolated holiday cottage in Wales. On top of the usual hen do tensions, our hens must face the unknown post-apocalyptic world in a battle for survival, armed with only their wits and a whole car load of hen do paraphernalia. As they emerge from weeks of hiding out, they discover the male population has been very nearly wiped out. Plus the hens soon realise they are not alone – they have serious competition from a bunch of radicalised Pilates instructors.

The ensemble cast includes Lucie Shorthouse (‘We Are Lady Parts’) as demanding bride Zara, Elizabeth Berrington (‘The Responder’, ‘The Pact’) who plays Zara’s formidable mother Bernadette, Callie Cooke (‘Cheaters’, ‘Peacock’) as put upon chief bridesmaid Shelly, Lauren O’Rourke (‘White Gold’, ‘Drifters’) as conspiracy theorist beautician Veena, Kate O’Flynn (‘Landscapers’, ‘Everyone Else Burns’) as one woman disaster area Jen, and Ben McGregor (‘The Tuckers’) will join the cast as entrepreneurial stripper Drew.

“this is a dream cast, the locations are epic, the apocalypse has never been so much fun,” said creator Caroline Moran (‘Hullraisers’, ‘Raised by Wolves’).

The six-episode series has been commissioned for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning at the BBC. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Tanya Qureshi. The Executive Producers are Phil Clarke (‘I May Destroy You’), Helen Williams (‘Flack’, ‘Lazy Susan’), Jack Bayles (‘Catastrophe’) and Roberto Troni (‘I May Destroy You’). VAL is part of BBC Studios portfolio of invested indie production companies with whom they hold a minority share. BBC Studios will distribute internationally.

“It’s no surprise that Caz’s inventive scripts have attracted such a top cast,” said Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning at the BBC. “Her post-apocalyptic vision is both terrifying and utterly hilarious. We can’t wait to see it all come together.”

Henpocalypse‘ does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on BBC Two and iPlayer. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
