‘Black Snow’: BBC Picks Up Australian crime drama starring ‘Vikings’ Travis Fimmel

The BBC has headed down under once again for its latest acquisition, as the UK broadcaster announces they have picked up Black Snow, a six-part crime drama starring ‘Vikings’ Travis Fimmel.

A small-town Australian high school gathers for the ceremonial opening of a time capsule buried by a class some 20 years ago, shortly after the murder of class member Isabelle Baker. Isabelle’s family and the police are shocked when the capsule is opened to reveal cryptic messages in Isabelle’s written statement.

These messages and other long-lost items suggest Isabelle had known she was in danger in the days leading to her murder. The case is re-opened causing heartache for the family and raising questions that certain people would rather not answer…

The series stars Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Danger Close), Jemmason Power, Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Eden Cassady, Seini Willett and Gulliver McGrath (Dark Shadows, Lincoln).

“Australia’s South Sea Island community is the fascinating setting for this dark and haunting murder mystery,” said Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition. “Its twists and turns will keep viewers guessing until the very end.”

The drama is created and written by Lucas Taylor (‘In Limbo’, ‘Harrow’), with Beatrix Christian (‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’) and Boyd Quakawoot (‘Black Comedy’) also writing episodes. Sian Davies (‘Wentworth’, ‘The Twelve’) and Matthew Saville (‘Upright’, ‘Rake’, ‘Please Like Me’) direct the series. ‘Black Snow’ was acquired by the BBC from All3Media International. It was produced by Goalpost Pictures for Stan, Australia and Sundance Now US.

Black Snow‘ does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on BBC Four and iPlayer in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
