Yellowstone fans are going to have to wait a while for the final part of Season 5, as Paramount announces part two of the final season has been moved to November 2024. They have also announced a continuation series, along with another prequel series, landing in late 2024/early 2025.

The main ‘Yellowstone’ series chronicles the Dutton family, led (currently) by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and vicious business rivalries.

The franchise has seen nearly as much drama behind the scenes as it has on camera. Without going into all the details again, back in February, it was reported that Costner had been upset over the shooting Season 5 shooting schedule, putting him at odds with the franchise’s creator and showrunner, Taylor Sheridan. Of course, that schedule got thrown out of the window anyway following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but at that point, the damage was already done, and Paramount decided to close this chapter of ‘Yellowstone’. However, they did commission a “continuation” series, currently titled 2024, which would carry over key cast members, but without Costner. Although not confirmed at this point (deals can not be completed whilst the actor’s strike is ongoing), it is expected Matthew McConaughey will headline the new show.

‘Yellowstone’ Season 5, part 2, was originally scheduled for November 2023. However, that has now been moved to November 2024, and will be followed in December 2024 by the new series, called ‘2024’ (that title is not going to get horribly confusing at all!)

In addition to those, Paramount has commissioned another ‘Yellowstone’ prequel series, currently under the working title of 1944, which is set in… well, 1944… This joins the previous two prequels, 1883 and 1923, all of which are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, and air on Paramount+ in the US and UK.

“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started,” commented Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

The ‘Yellowstone‘ franchise airs on Paramount+ in the US and UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
