Prime Video has set a February 2024 premiere date for ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘, a reimagining of the 2005 film, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, along with releasing some new “first look” photos.
In this version of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?
This is something of a departure from the plot of the original film, which saw Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie star as a bored upper-middle-class married couple who were surprised to learn that they are both assassins. But unfortunately, they belong to competing agencies and their latest assignments have given them orders to kill each other.
Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Maya Erskine (PEN15) take the title roles for the series, and are joined by Parker Posey (Lost in Space), Wagner Moura (Shining Girls, Narcos), Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You, Chewing Gum), John Turturro (The Batman, Severance), and Paul Dano (The Batman, 12 Years a Slave).
The new series reimagining of the 2005 film comes from co-creators and executive producers Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), with Sloane as the showrunner. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer also executive produce, and Amazon Studios is the studio.
‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ premieres as a boxset, with all eight episodes available on Friday, 2nd February 2024 on Prime Video UK and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
