Disney Releases First-Look Photos Of ‘Renegade Nell’ From Sally Wainwright, Starring Louisa Harland
Disney+ has released some first-look photos of ‘Renegade Nell‘, a brand new series from ‘Gentleman Jack’ and ‘Happy Valley’ creator Sally Wainwright starring ‘Derry Girls’ Louisa Harland in the title role, premiering in Spring 2024.
Harland plays Nell, a quick-witted and courageous young woman who finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious highwaywoman in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind, played by Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso), appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.

The drama also stars Frank Dillane (The Essex Serpent, Fear the Walking Dead) as Nell’s fickle friend and sometime adversary Charles Devereux, a charming rogue with a dangerous, villainous alter ego; Adrian Lester (Trigger Point, Mary Queen of Scots) as the Earl of Poynton, a master political schemer and manipulator who joins forces against Nell; And Alice Kremelberg (The Sinner) as Sofia Wilmot, a young widow who wants power and independence at any cost.

Other cast includes Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as eccentric newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger; Pip Torrens (The Crown, Poldark) as Lord Blancheford, the father of Sofia; Jake Dunn (Half Bad) as her feckless bullying brother Thomas; Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) as Nell’s kind-hearted father Sam; And Ényì Okoronkwo (The Lazarus Project) as Rasselas, a spirited stable boy who joins Nell and her sisters on the run in his own bid for freedom. Newcomers?Bo Bragason?and?Florence Keen play Nell’s two younger sisters, Roxy and George.
‘Renegade Nell’ (previously titled ‘The Ballad Of Renegade Nell’) is a Lookout Point original adventure series written and created by BAFTA award-winning writer Sally Wainwright and directed by Ben Taylor (Sex Education, Catastrophe). Also directing are Amanda Brotchie (Gentleman Jack) and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso). The series is executive produced by Sally Wainwright, Faith Penhale and Will Johnston with Louise Mutter for BBC Studios-backed Lookout Point, and Johanna Devereaux for Disney+. Jon Jennings is the series producer and Stella Merz is the producer.
