The BBC has released a trailer for hit drama The Tourist Season 2 starring Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) and Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’) which returns to BBC One on New Year’s Day in the UK, with all episodes on iPlayer.

Jamie Dornan resumes his role as Elliot Stanley, a man looking to rediscover his true identity after his memory loss, alongside Danielle Macdonald as police officer Helen Chambers, following their adventure in the Outback. Set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, Elliot and Helen are confronted by friends and foes. As they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past, they are soon dragged into a longstanding family feud where they face the dangerous consequences of his past actions.

As Elliot and Helen are dragged into a longstanding family feud, series two introduces a raft of new characters including Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill – Industry, The Fall), Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré – Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Northman) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh – Vikings, Outlander), Orla (Nessa Matthews – Fair City), Fergal (Mark McKenna – Sing Street, One of Us is Lying), and Frank (Francis Magee – Kin, Then You Run).

Full of shocking plot twists and the same off-beat comedy that made series one a success, The Tourist is set to return with even more quirky characters and intense action.

Season one launched with 11.4 million viewers in the UK and holds the title of the UK’s most-watched drama of 2022 across all platforms. Internationally, sales for the first series spanned five continents, with the show seen from South Korea to Scandinavia and was crowned the winner of three Golden Nymph Awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival including Best Series, the festival’s highest accolade.

‘The Tourist’ season two is a Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company) production for the BBC, in association with Stan, ZDF and All3Media International created and written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste, Fleabag). Fergus O’Brien (Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack) directs the opening block with Johann Perry (Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack) as DOP, while Lisa Mulcahy (Blood, Years and Years) and Kate Dolan (Kin, You Are Not My Mother) directed block two and three respectively.

Executive producers are Harry and Jack Williams, Sarah Hammond and Daniel Walker for Two Brothers Pictures, with Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC, and Jamie Dornan. Alex Mercer (Inside Man, Crossfire) is producer.

The Tourist‘ Season 2 premieres Monday, 1st January 2024 at 9pm on BBC One, with all episodes available on BBC iPlayer from 6am.
