'What We Do In The Shadows' To End With 6th & Final Season

Vampires might live forever, but unfortunately, shows about them don’t, as it has been confirmed the critically acclaimed comedy What We Do In The Shadows will end with its upcoming 6th Season.

Based on the feature film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the series documents the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, The Guide (Kristen Schaal).

No reason has been given yet for the show’s ending, so it’s unclear if this was a creative decision by the cast and showrunners, or if it came from the network. Its linear numbers on FX have not been great in the later seasons, although they don’t tell the entire story. The series also airs via FX On Hulu, for which we don’t have viewing figures, and is likely where the majority of people watch the comedy.

It should also be noted the series has earned 21 Emmy nominations over its five seasons so far, winning for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes in 2022. It recently won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and is nominated for multiple Hollywood Critics Association, Emmys and Saturn Awards for 2023.

The series is produced by FX Productions, with Paul Simms, Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Stefani Robinson, Sam Johnson, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush serving as executive producers.

What We Do In The Shadows‘ airs on Disney+ in the UK.
