Geektown Awards – Most Anticipated TV, Films & Games Of 2024

by Dave Elliott

With the review of last year done, we look forward to what you voted as your Most Anticipated TV Shows, Films and Games of 2024. It is looking to be a strong year in all three categories. We have more game-to-tv adaptations, along with more Marvel, and the return of our beloved ‘Orphan Black’. In film we have the fantastically bonkers-looking ‘Deadpool 3′, plus more sequels from ‘Joker’, ‘Ghostbusters’, and randomly, ‘Gladiator’. Games also have sequels with a new Dragon Age, a new Prince of Persia, plus a brand new open-world Star Wars game. Here are the nominees and results.

Most Anticipated New TV Series of 2024

Nominees: Three-Body Problem – Netflix – The story of humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization inspired by the renowned novel, adapted by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo.; Fallout – Prime Video – The ‘Fallout’ franchise is making the leap from gaming to tv, produced by Westworld’s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.; Marvel’s Agatha: Darkhold Diaries – Disney+ – Kathryn Hahn reprise her scene-stealing character from ‘WandaVision’ in her own show.; Marvel’s Echo – Disney+ – Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) criminal empire.; Marvel’s Ironheart – Disney+ – Dominique Thorne stars as Riri Williams, a genius young inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man.; Marvel’s X-Men ‘97 – Disney+ – Animated series from Marvel Studios that explores new stories in the iconic ’90s timeline of the original series; Masters of the Air – Apple TV+ – The third WWII drama from the team behind ‘Band Of Brothers’ and ‘The Pacific’.; Orphan Black: Echoes – ITVX – Krysten Ritter stars in a new series set in the world of the landmark series Orphan Black; Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Disney+ – A new series starring Jude Law that follows a group of ten years olds who get lost in the Star Wars universe.; The Mayfair Witches – BBC – Series based on Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels by Anne Rice.; The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – No UK Broadcaster – Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France in this spin-off; The Walking Dead: Dead City – No UK Broadcaster – ?Maggie and Negan travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland; The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live – No UK Broadcaster – A series that will finally continue the journey of Rick Grimes and Michonne.

Bronze: Marvel’s Agatha: Darkhold Diaries

Silver: Three-Body Problem

Gold Winner: Fallout

The show which, I think, is on its third title, Marvel’s Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, lands the bronze place, and is the only Marvel series to break the top three. Silver goes to Three-Body Problem… there are apparently a lot more people than me out there who have faith in Netflix, and GoT’s David Benioff and D.B. Weiss not to mess that up… And Gold goes to Fallout, coming to Amazon in April from executive producer and director Jonathan Nolan (Westworld), and executive producer and co-showrunner Graham Wagner. Here’s to hoping that when it comes to this game-to-tv adaptation, it’s more ‘The Last Of Us’ than ‘Halo’

Most Anticipated New Movie of 2024

Nominees: A Quiet Place: Day One; Bad Boys 4; Beetlejuice 2; Borderlands; Chicken Run 2; Deadpool 3; Despicable Me 4; Dune: Part Two; Furiosa (Mad Max: Fury Road prequel); Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire; Gladiator 2; Inside Out 2; Joker: Folie à Deux; Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes; Paddington in Peru; Rebel Moon: Part One; Sonic the Hedgehog 3; The Fall Guy; Wicked: Part One

Bronze: Beetlejuice 2

Silver: Dune: Part Two

Gold Winner: Deadpool 3

Given the number of big franchises with sequel movies next year, it was going to be interesting to see what landed on top. There’s a lot of love for Beetlejuice 2 as that takes the Bronze award. The much-delayed Dune: Part Two picks up Silver. But it is the beloved merc with a mouth, and his Wolverine sidekick in Deadpool 3 which takes the Gold. We don’t officially know all that much about the film’s plot at the moment, but from all the bits we have seen, it looks to be utterly bonkers and game-changing for the MCU. We will see what happens went it is released in July.

Most Anticipated New Game of 2024

Nominees: Alone in the Dark; Avowed; Dragon Age: Dreadwolf; Final Fantasy VII Rebirth; Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth; Persona 3 Reload; Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown; Star Wars Outlaws; Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League; The Wolf Among Us 2; Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Bronze: Alone in the Dark

Silver: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Gold Winner: Star Wars Outlaws

It’s a good year for game remakes, as Alone in the Dark picks up Bronze, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes Silver. However, it’s Star Wars Outlaws which takes the Gold, a massive new open-world game set in a galaxy far, far, away, and one that doesn’t rely on Jedi to do the heavy lifting. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, you play Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted. GTA meets Star Wars? We’ll see when it’s released later this year.
