‘The Last Of Us‘ has filled two key roles for the upcoming 2nd Season of the hit drama, with Kaitlyn Dever taking the part of “Abby”, and Young Mazino playing “Jesse”.
Based on the critically acclaimed video game, the series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. In season one, Joel (Pedro Pascal – ‘The Mandalorian’), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey – ‘Game Of Thrones’), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
As you might expect, Season 2 uses The Last of Us Part II video game as the basis for the story. Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby is a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved. We won’t spoil anything, but if you know the game, you’ll know Abby is a pivotal part of the Part II story.
Dever is best known for her roles in shows such as ‘Justified’, ‘Last Man Standing’, ‘Unbelievable’, and most recently, the miniseries ‘Dopesick’. She has also starred in movies such as ‘No One Will Save You’, ‘Rosaline’ and ‘Dear Evan Hansen’.
Young Mazino’s Jesse is a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at a terrible cost. Again, without spoiling anything, if you know the game, you’ll know Jesse is someone with important ties to Ellie.
Mazino is just coming off the back of his role in Netflix’s ‘Beef’ as Paul Cho, younger brother to Danny, played by ‘The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun. He’s currently filming the movie ‘Opus’ alongside Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Amber Midthunder, and fellow ‘The Last Of Us’ guest star Murray Bartlett.
We don’t know exactly when Season 2 will land, although we’re not expecting it to appear until 2025. Filming is scheduled to begin in February 2024 in Vancouver.
