Apple Renews ‘Hijack’ Starring Idris Elba For Season 2

From Creators Of Netflix's ‘Criminal’ & 'Litvinenko'

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV+ has renewed the real-time thriller Hijack for Season 2, from the duo behind Netflix’s ‘Criminal’ and ITV’s ‘Litvinenko’, starring and exec-produced by Idris Elba.

Created by George Kay (“Lupin,” “Criminal”) & Jim Field Smith (“Criminal,” “Litvinenko”), the series stars Elba as corporate negotiator Sam Nelson. The first season saw Sam’s skills put to the test when hijackers take over the flight he is currently on. The report from Apple does not give anything away about what sticky situation Sam will find himself in when the drama returns.

Since its worldwide debut, ‘Hijack’ has become one of the top dramas on Apple TV+, receiving wide acclaim from both critics and fans, quickly achieving a Certified Fresh critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and landing on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list. The “instantly enthralling” series has been hailed as “a shot of pure adrenaline,” praised as a “crisp and tense” drama that is “tension-filled and gripping, often putting the viewer on the edge of their seat,” with Elba starring as a “commanding leading man.”

“I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after season one,” said executive producer and star Idris Elba. “It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!”

Season one also starred Christine Adams (‘Black Lightning’), Max Beesley (‘Midwich Cuckoos’, ‘The Outsider’, ‘Mad Dogs’), Eve Myles (‘Torchwood’, ‘We Hunt Together’), Neil Maskell (‘Utopia’, ‘Litvinenko’, ‘Peaky Blinders’), Jasper Britton, Harry Michell (‘Here Comes Hell’, ‘RSC: Henry IV’), Aimée Kelly (‘This England’, ‘Wolfblood’), Mohamed Elsandel and Ben Miles (‘The Crown’, ‘Andor’, ‘The Capture’). As of right now, the only person confirmed as returning for season two is Idris Elba.

The second season of ‘Hijack will be executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films (‘Slow Horses’, ‘The Essex Serpent’), alongside executive producers Kay and Field Smith’s own production company Idiotlamp Productions. Field Smith also serves as lead director for the series.

“Global audiences were on tenterhooks watching Idris’s riveting performance in ‘Hijack,’ and we’re thrilled to be working again with 60Forty and Idiotlamp on an equally compelling season two,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+.

Season 1 of ‘Hijack‘ can be streamed on Apple TV+ right now. We don’t have a premiere date for Season 2 yet, but if you want to keep track of this or any other show, add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
