It may have ended back in 2021, but the unkillable ‘Wynonna Earp‘ is returning for a 90-minute special TV movie thanks to US streaming service Tubi!
The show, which originally ran for 4 Seasons, follows Wynonna Earp, Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter, as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she’s the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.
The scripted special, which is tentatively titled ‘Wynonna Earp: Vengeance’, is set to see Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna herself), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) all return, along with some other familiar faces. Paolo Barzman, who directed many episodes of the series, will helm the drama which has been was written by the show’s creator and executive producer, Emily Andras.
We don’t know anything yet about the plot of the 90-min episode, however, when writer/creator Emily Andras spoke to Vanity Fair, who originally broke the news, she did drop a couple of hints as to what we can expect. “Doc and Wynonna have been on an adventure, and Waverly and Nicole have been at home in [the Earp hometown of] Purgatory, doing their thing,” said Andras. “I think it’s going to be really interesting to see, hopefully, what gets everybody home – maybe facing a challenge they’ve never faced before, something pretty intense. It’s all your favorite – hopefully – character moments, but also a little bit about growing up and sort of, like, being who you are now and earning all your choices.”
Shooting in Calgary, Canada, is due to begin soon, with plans for the film to be released in late 2024 on Tubi in the USA. Unfortunately, we don’t have Tubi in the UK, so it does not have a UK broadcaster yet. However, the series has appeared on both Sky and Netflix here in the past, so there are some likely candidates to pick up the rights for this side of the pond.
‘Wynonna Earp: Vengeance’ is produced by SEVEN24 Films in association with Cineflix Studios, written, created and executive produced by Emily Andras and directed by Paolo Barzman. SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox with Cineflix’s Peter Emerson and Brett Burlock serve as Executive Producers along with Todd Berger and Rick Jacobs. “Wynonna Earp” is based on the IDW Publishing graphic novel created and written by Beau Smith.
