‘Fire Country’ Renewed For Season 3 & ‘Ghosts’ (US) Renewed For Season 4 At CBS

by Dave Elliott

US network CBS has, once again, come out of the gate early with renewals from some of their biggest show, handing a Season 3 renewal to Fire Country, and a Season 4 renewal to the US version of Ghosts.

Co-created, starring and exec produced by Seal Team’s Max Thieriot, ‘Fire Country’ tells the story of a young convict, Bode Donovan (Thieriot), who seeks redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison-release firefighting programme. Inspired by Thieriot’s personal experiences of growing up in wildfire-prone Northern California, the series sees Bode and other inmates partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region.

The drama has been a big hit for CBS, who are currently airing the 2nd Season. It’s averaging just over 9 million viewers in live+7-day viewing, up 7% on Season 1, and also sitting at #6 in Paramount+ US’s top ten for streaming. They are also considering a spin-off show centred on a Sherriff played by Morena Baccarin (Gotham, Deadpool, Firefly), who pops up first in Season 2.

Alongside Thieriot, the series also stars Billy Burke (Twilight, Zoo, 9-1-1: Lone Star), Kevin Alejandro (Lucifer, Arrow), Diane Farr (Chance, Rescue Me), Stephanie Arcila (Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), Jordan Calloway (Riverdale, Black Lightning) and Jules Latimer (Rustin, Guilty Party).

The US adaptation of Ghosts follows Samantha (Rose McIver – ‘iZombie’) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar – ‘Pitch Perfect’), a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who throw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge rundown country estate they inherited into a bed & breakfast – only to find it’s inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who still call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer Alberta (Danielle Pinnock); forgotten Founding Father Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones); ’60s hippie Flower (Sheila Carrasco); upbeat ’80s scout troop leader Pete (Richie Moriarty); a Viking explorer from 1009, Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long); slick ’90s finance bro Trevor (Asher Grodman); sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century, Sasappis (Román Zaragoza); and Hetty, society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Samantha’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few.

This has also been a big hit for CBS, pulling over 10 million viewers in live+7-day viewing, a little up from last season, and rising streaming numbers on Paramount+, becoming their #1 comedy in February.

Over the last few years, CBS has often been the first to announce renewals of their bigger hit shows. These two join Justin Hartley fronted drama Tracker, which was renewed last week.

Fire Country‘ Season 1 is currently airing on Sky Witness in the UK, with Season 2 expected to follow. ‘Ghosts‘ Seasons 1 and 2 aired on the BBC and iPlayer, but we’re still awaiting word on when Season 3 will land in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
