‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith‘ will be back for more as Prime Video announces they have renewed the Donald Glover and Maya Erskine series for Season 2.
The series follows two lonely strangers who land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?
“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”
There is one small caveat for season two, as there are rumours Glover and Erskine might not return for the second outing… We do know from season one that the duo were not the only “Smiths”, so it is possible it could follow a new “Smith” couple. Should be noted, Glover has got a Childish Gambino tour booked beginning this August and running through 2025.
The series, which is a reimagining of the original 2005 film, comes from co-creators and executive producers Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), with Sloane as the showrunner. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer also executive produce. It is produced by New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios.
‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith‘ Season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video right now. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
