Jared Padalecki Joins ‘Fire Country’ For Guest Arc Which *Could* Lead To A Spin-Off

We stress... *Could*...

by Dave Elliott

Fire Country is getting a very familiar face for a guest arc, as it’s announced Jared Padalecki will take a role in Season 3, which could then, *possibly* (we stress, possibly!), lead to another spin-off series.

Co-created, starring and exec produced by Seal Team’s Max Thieriot, ‘Fire Country’ tells the story of a young convict, Bode Donovan (Thieriot), who seeks redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison-release firefighting programme. Inspired by Thieriot’s personal experiences of growing up in wildfire-prone Northern California, the series sees Bode and other inmates partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region.

Padalecki joins the series for a three-episode guest arc playing Camden Casey, a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s raw talent.

“We launch Camden Casey in a really dynamic way,” commented showrunner Tia Napolitano. “We were so excited about casting Jared and he’s really going to ‘flip the script’ in Edgewater! Everyone sort of treats Bode as this tiger they’re trying to tame, and Camden kind of says, ‘Why are you trying to tame a tiger? Let him out!'”

‘Fire Country’ already has one spin-off ordered, ‘Sheriff Country’, which stars Morena Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr). Whilst that was planned as a potential spin-off from the outset, and used a Season 2 episode as a “backdoor pilot”, things are a little different this time around.

Padalecki is just coming off the back of the hit series ‘Walker’, and previously co-led the massively popular ‘Supernatural’. Rather than being fully planned out, the idea of a Padalecki-led spin-off is in very early stages at the moment. It seems to be more of a case that CBS knows Padalecki can easily lead a show, so if they can find a story which would work for a series, and it interests him, and the character lands well with audiences, they could move forward… So there a number of “ifs” and “buts” to get through before anything gets a green light.

‘Fire Country’ is produced by CBS Studios. Executive producers are Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Tia Napolitano, Max Thieriot, Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed (Lucifer). The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. The drama has been renewed for season two.

Fire Country‘ Season 2 is currently airing on Sky Witness in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
