Prime Video has released the final trailer for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘ Season 2 before it premieres later this month on the streaming service.
In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots—as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.
The new trailer reveals Middle-earth in the throes of discord, sown by Sauron, and the deception and manipulation that lead to the crafting of more of the titular Rings of Power. Unlikely alliances are forged amidst fire, and true friendships are tested. Dangers no longer lurk in shadow, but slither their way into the light. Weighty decisions rest on the shoulders of the realms of Eregion, Khazad-dûm, Lindon, Númenor, and the lands in between, as the safety and peace of these kingdoms hang in the balance.
This season features the long-awaited Siege of Eregion, a definitive battle in J.R.R. Tolkien’s history of the Second Age of Middle-earth, from which not everyone makes it out alive. The banners are raised, and the devastating war against Sauron is just beginning.
Returning cast includes Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Prince Durin IV, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Ema Horvath as Eärien, Benjamin Walker as High King Gil-Galad, Peter Mullan as King Durin III, Markella Kavenagh as Nori Brandyfoot, Maxim Baldry as Isildur, Sophia Nomvete as Princess Disa, and Charlie Vickers as Sauron.
The show is not afraid of throwing actors at the screen, so there are bunch of new faces too, most notably Rory Kinnear, who take the iconic role of Tom Bombadil. Other new faces include Gabriel Akuwudike (Hanna), Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour (The Witcher), Ben Daniels (Jupiter’s Legacy), newcomer Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle (Persuasion), Nicholas Woodeson (Silent Witness). Oliver Alvin-Wilson (The Bay), Stuart Bowman (The Pact), Gavi Singh Chera (The Undeclared War), William Chubb (Vampire Academy), Kevin Eldon (Game of Thrones), Will Keen (Ridley Road), Selina Lo (Boss Level), and Calam Lynch (Bridgerton). Additionally, Sam Hazeldine (Slow Horses, Temple, Peaky Blinders) takes over the role of Orc leader Adar replacing Joseph Mawle who decided to move on to other projects.
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-executive producer and director Charlotte Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey. Additional Season Two directors include Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘ Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, 28th August 2024 with two episodes on Prime Video worldwide.
