Apple Officially Renews ‘Criminal Record’ For Season 2 With Peter Capaldi & Cush Jumbo

by Dave Elliott

Six months after star Cush Jumbo unofficially let the cat out of the bag, Apple TV+ has finally officially confirmed that Criminal Record has been renewed for a 2nd Season with both Jumbo and Peter Capaldi returning.

From BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (‘Vera’, ‘Indian Summers’), ‘Criminal Record’ is a powerful, character-driven police drama set in the heart of contemporary London. Season one begins with an anonymous phone call that draws two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case – one, a young woman in the early stages of her career (Cush Jumbo – ‘The Good Wife’, ‘The Good Fight’, ‘The Beast Must Die’), the other, a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy (Peter Capaldi – ‘Doctor Who’, ‘The Thick of It’). The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarised Britain.

In Season 2, June Lenker (Jumbo) is set as the senior officer on the scene when far-right counter-protesters attack a political rally. The clash leaves a young man dead, which consumes June with guilt and drives her to bring the unknown killer to justice. June’s best hope in finding the killer is Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi), who is now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs, but to get his help, she will have to accept a dangerous bargain.

Created by BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (‘Vera’, ‘Indian Summers’), the drama is filmed in London and produced for Apple TV+ by Tod Productions and STV Studios. BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins (“Shetland,” “Vera”) is joined by Chris Sussman (“Trying,” “Good Omens”) as executive producer for season two alongside Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo.

Criminal Record‘ Season 1 can be streamed on Apple TV+ right now. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
