A full trailer has landed for CBS drama ‘Matlock‘ starring Kathy Bates, which is due to premiere this October on Sky Witness in the UK.
After achieving success in her younger years, the brilliant septuagenarian Madeline Matlock, played by Academy & Emmy Award Winner Kathy Bates, rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanour and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within.
Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice, while Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm, is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills. Matty works alongside the firm’s younger associates – the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the uber-ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis) – as she endeavours to establish herself in her new high-stakes world.
This series is obviously inspired by the classic television series of the same name, but the trailer adds a fun new layer to that. It seems that the original TV show was actually a TV show in this universe, as Maddy comments her name is Matlock, “like that old TV series.”
The dramedy is written by Jennie Snyder Urman (‘Jane the Virgin’), and is produced by CBS Studios. Urman, Bates, Eric Christian Olsen, Joanna Klein, John Will, and Kat Coiro also exec produce with Coiro directing the pilot.
‘Matlock’ joins Sky’s other recently announced CBS acquisition, ‘Elsbeth’, which sees Carrie Preston reprise her role as Elsbeth Tascioni from ‘The Good Wife’ & ‘The Good Fight’ series.
‘Matlock‘ Season 1 premieres September 22, 2024 on CBS in the US. It’s currently scheduled to premiere in October 2024 on Sky Witness in the UK, although we don’t yet have an exact date.
