Channel 4 has set an October premiere date for Season 2 of comedy ‘Everyone Else Burns‘, which sees Simon Bird return as the head of a strictly religious family from Manchester who believe the world will end within the next decade.
Season two challenges the Lewises’ commitment to the Order more than ever before. Relationships are at the forefront as daughter Rachel’s (Amy James-Kelly) drive for independence is threatened by arranged marriage, and cracks widen between dad David (Bird) and mum Fiona (Kate O’Flynn) after David meets an imposing new member, Maude (Sian Clifford). Meanwhile, son Aaron (Harry Connor) is set to launch a revolutionary bid to drag the Order into the present day (with, and in spite of, his dad’s help).
In the opening episode, after 300 hours of gruelling penance, Rachel returns to the church – where arranged marriage is making a comeback and she’s expected to engage in Order-approved speed-dating… Fiona questions her chemistry with husband David, and matters worsen when he meets Maude – a mysterious, traditional woman with an identical taste in squash. As Aaron pulls distraught neighbour Andrew (Kadiff Kirwan) back to the church, courtship brings Rachel face-to-face with her ex, Joshua (Ali Khan). Will they rekindle their romance? Or will Rachel have her head turned by Jebediah (Paddy Young) – a tattoo-covered, ‘cool-guy’ Christian with a liberal take on the Order’s rules?
