ITVX has picked up two acquisitions from AMC to air this December on the UK streaming service – ‘An Accidental Studio’ tells the true story of how Beatle George Harrison “accidentally” set up movie studio HandMade Films, and Season 1 of vampire drama ‘NOS4A2‘.
Produced in the UK, ‘An Accidental Studio’ tells the remarkable story of HandMade Films, George Harrison’s venture into the film industry. HandMade Films dominated the British movie scene with its ethos of making and releasing maverick films that others had rejected, from ‘Life of Brian’ to ‘The Long Good Friday’. Featuring never-before-seen interviews with key players, this feature-length documentary captures an extraordinary moment in film history through the eyes of the filmmakers and actors as well as the man who started it all, former Beatle and music legend George Harrison.
With unreleased archive interviews and footage with Harrison, new and exclusive interviews with BAFTA winner Michael Palin, Golden Globe and Oscar nominee Terry Gilliam, Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant and Oscar winner Neil Jordan, and unseen interviews with Golden Globe and BAFTA winner Bob Hoskins, ‘An Accidental Studio’ explores HandMade’s baptism of fire and the risks it took in producing uniquely crafted, intelligent films. Additional interviewees in the film include Bruce Robinson, Ray Cooper, Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais, Cathy Tyson, Brenda Vaccaro, A Martinez, Richard Loncraine and Jonathan Lynn.
‘NOS4A2’ is a supernatural horror series based on Joe Hill’s bestselling 2013 novel of the same name, tells the story of Charlie Manx (portrayed by Zachary Quinto), a seductive immortal who feeds off the souls of children and then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland – an icy, twisted Christmas village of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas Day and unhappiness is against the law. But Manx finds his whole world threatened when Vic McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings), a young woman in New England, discovers she has a dangerous supernatural ability. Vic sets out to defeat Manx and rescue his victims – without losing her mind or falling victim to him herself.
‘NOS4A2’ has technically aired on TV in the UK previously, but you only managed to catch it if you were one of the very few people who had access to the AMC Global channel. For most, this will be their first opportunity. The drama, which was executive produced by showrunner Jami O’Brien (Fear the Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels) and author Joe Hill, ran for two seasons. The series is produced by AMC Studios in association with Tornante Television.
The acquisitions see the continuation of ITVX’s successful partnership with leading international broadcaster AMC Networks International UK. Other AMC shows available on ITVX include ‘The Son’, ‘The Terror’, ‘Before We Was We’, ‘Portlandia’ and ‘Creepshow’.
‘An Accidental Studio’ and ‘NOS4A2‘ Season 1 do not have exact air dates yet, but will arrive in December 2024 on ITVX in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
