Aimee Lou Wood Co-Creates & Stars In Romantic Dramedy ‘Film Club’ For BBC

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has announced the cast for Film Club, a new romantic dramedy series co-created by and starring Aimee Lou Wood, which includes Nabhaan Rizwaan, Suranne Jones and more.

Friday night. 7pm. Film Club Week 198. Evie (Lou Wood) hasn’t left the house in six months after a ‘wobble’, and Film Club is her escape. A weekly chance to create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the movie calls for and spend a few uninterrupted hours with Noa (Rizwaan) – her best friend and one of the few mates who still shows up.

But tonight, things are different. Noa’s got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending. That reality is hitting. That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore.

As if life weren’t challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home – living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz (Jones), sister Izzie, and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh.

BAFTA award-winning co-creator Aimee Lou Wood (Daddy Issues, Sex Education, White Lotus S3) was previously announced as playing Evie, and is now joined by Nabhaan Rizwan (Kaos, In Camera) as Noa. Suranne Jones (Vigil, Doctor Foster) will play Suz, Evie’s eccentric and unconventional mother. Also joining the cast are Adam Long (Happy Valley, Masters Of The Air) as Evie’s boyfriend Josh and Liv Hill (Three Girls, The Serpent Queen) as her sister, Izzie. Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon 2, Big Boys S3, Othello), who co-created the series with Lou Wood, will play Dominic, Film Club’s newest member.

“I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week,” said Aimee Lou Wood. “We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour.”

The six episode series was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, and Fiona Campbell, Controller Youth Audience, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. It is co-created and written by Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis, with Anna Jordan (One Day, Killing Eve) joining the writing team for episode four. The series is produced by Gaumont UK (Obsession, Locked In, The Wives) with the support of ZDFneo. Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack, Renegade Nell) joins as producer and Catherine Morshead (Daddy Issues, The Full Monty) will direct the series. Executive producers are Aimee Lou Wood, Alison Jackson and Jamie Jackson for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC. International sales will be handled by Fremantle.

Film Club‘ Season 1 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in 2025, and is shooting right now in Manchester. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
