US streaming service MAX has released the first trailer for new medical drama ‘The Pitt‘, which sees Noah Wyle don ER scrubs once again when it launches next year on Sky in the UK and MAX in the USA.
‘The Pitt’ is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh. As you can see from the trailer, it appears to be taking a ’24’ approach to real-time storytelling, with the 15 episodes following 15 hours and one shift in the hospital’s ER.
The drama stars Noah Wyle (ER, Leverage: Redemption) as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch), Tracey Ifeachor (The Originals, Showtrial) as Dr. Collins, Patrick Marron Ball as Dr. Langdon, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Mohan, Fiona Dourif (Chucky, The Blacklist) as Dr. McKay, Taylor Dearden (For All Mankind, American Vandal, Sweet/Vicious) as Dr. King, Isa Briones (Star Trek: Picard, Goosebumps) as Dr. Santos, Gerran Howell (Ludwig, 1917) as Whitaker, Shabana Azeez (Nautilus, In Limbo) as Javadi, and Katherine LaNasa (Truth Be Told, Satisfaction) as Dana Evans.
The drama has already been in the news due to how the team behind it originally came together. ‘The Pitt’ is created by R. Scott Gemmill, who previously worked on hit medical drama ‘ER’ alongside exec producer John Wells (ER, The West Wing), and Noah Wyle. Gemmill, Wells and Wyle had originally approached the estate of Michael Crichton, who created ‘ER’, about the possibility of reviving the drama. However, after months of negotiations, they couldn’t come to an agreement with the estate, and so came up with ‘The Pitt’ instead. That has led to the Crichton estate filing a breach of contract lawsuit, despite there being marked differences between the two medical dramas (such as the real-time premise.) The litigation is ongoing.
‘The Pitt’ is a co-production with Sky Studios, produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP is under an overall deal. R. Scott Gemmill wrote the first episode and executive produce the series alongside Noah Wyle (“ER,” “The Librarian” franchise, “Falling Skies”), Emmy winner John Wells (“Animal Kingdom,” “Shameless,” “The West Wing,” “ER”) and JWP’s Erin Jontow (“Emperor Of Ocean Park,” “Rescue: HI-Surf,” “Maid”), Simran Baidwan (“Manifest,” “Ordinary Joe,” “The Good Doctor,” “Chicago Med”), and Michael Hissrich (“Shameless,” “The West Wing,” “Third Watch”).
‘The Pitt‘ premieres on MAX in the USA in January 2025. Whilst the exact UK channel, date, and time are TBC, the drama will air on Sky in 2025 (most likely in January in line with the US, but not confirmed.) However, if you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
