The Traitors Returns For Season 3 On New Year’s Day

by Dave Elliott

The BBC is kicking off 2025 with more backstabbing and mind games as they announce The Traitors Season 3 will premiere on New Year’s Day on BBC One and iPlayer.

Claudia Winkleman returns to host the nail-biting, award-winning reality series as they welcome a new group of strangers to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing, and trust in the hope of winning up to £120,000. It’s a new series and a whole new game. But who will make it through?

For those of you who have somehow missed this global phenomenon, ‘The Traitors’ is a psychological reality game show centred around tactics, betrayal, suspicion and manipulation. Should the Faithful contestants eliminate all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund. If a Traitor makes it to the end, they steal the money.

Since the series debuted on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2022, the show has been a breakout hit. Season two saw phenomenal growth with 46m views on BBC iPlayer and an average of 8.1m views per episode. ‘The Traitors’ continues to be the biggest new Entertainment brand in the market for 16-34’s. It should be no surprise that the BBC has already renewed it for Season 4, along with a celebrity version.

The show has also earned a raft of awards including the BAFTA TV Award for Best Reality & Constructed Factual, the NTA for Reality Competition, the RTS award for Entertainment and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Entertainment Programme. Claudia Winkleman won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Entertainment Performance, the RTS Award for Entertainment Performance and the Edinburgh TV Festival Variety Outstanding Achievement Award.

In addition to Season 3, the Official visualised podcast The Traitors: Uncloaked, hosted by stand-up comedian and presenter Ed Gamble, returns and will be available directly after every episode of the main show on BBC Two and iPlayer and an extended version with additional guests, further theories and essential analysis will be available on BBC Sounds.

The Traitors‘ Season 3 premieres Wednesday, 1st January 2025 on BBC One and iPlayer. Episodes 1 and 2 will air at 8pm, moving to 9pm from episode 3. The show will air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, as per last season.
