Supernatural show ‘Grimm‘ could be getting a reboot as a movie for Peacock, with a new story and new lead cast but set in the same world as the original, and from the original series creators.
The original series, which ended in 2017, starred David Giuntoli as Detective Nick Burkhardt, who learnt he is descended from a long line of ‘Grimms’ – people that can see all the mythological creatures, know as ‘Wesen’, that hide amongst us for what they really are. Some, such as his friends Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) & Rosalee (Bree Turner), are friendly. Other… not so much… A Grimm’s duty is to hunt down the bad ‘Wesen’, and help keep law and order for both the human and ‘Wesen’ worlds.
Whilst we don’t know anything specific yet about what the movie would entail, the suggestion is that there will be things in there which tie it to the original series for existing fans, but would also be accessible to newcomers as well. Should the film go down well, there is talk that it could be expanded into a “franchise” of either more movies or a new series.
This new take on ‘Grimm’ is being written by Josh Berman, creator of ‘Drop Dead Diva’, who also worked on shows such as ‘Bones’, ‘CSI’, and ‘The Blacklist’. Berman would executive produce alongside original co-creators and showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf.
This is the second time a ‘Grimm’ reboot has been attempted. The first was in development for NBC back in 2018, with Melissa Glenn (‘Leverage’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Zoo’) as writer/EP, and Greenwalt and Kouf as consulting producers. That version centred on a female Grimm but didn’t move forward.
The ‘Grimm‘ movie is very much “in development” at the moment, so might not go anywhere, but we’ll let you know if we hear more.
