ITVX Picks Up DC Original Series Boxset ‘Pennyworth’ To Air In January

by Dave Elliott

ITV has picked up another interesting boxset for their UK streaming service as they announce that all 3 seasons of DC Comics-inspired series Pennyworth will land on ITVX this January.

The drama follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon – The Imitation Game), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge – Our Girl, Reign, Fleabag), who has not yet become Bruce Wayne’s father.

In addition to Bannon and Aldridge, Pennyworth stars Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), and Dorothy Atkinson (Hanna, Harlots, Call the Midwife), with Paloma Faith (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

Based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, the 10-episode drama series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television is executive produced by Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI series).

The series is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. It has previously aired in the UK, although it was squirrelled away on the streaming service Starzplay (which then became Lionsgate+… which then became MGM+…), so this may be some people’s first time to watch.

All 3 Seasons of ‘Pennyworth‘ will drop on to ITVX in the UK from Sunday, 12th January 2025.

I’m glad to see Pennyworth become more widely available, it felt like almost nobody else watched it when it was Starzplay exclusive. I hate to see TV shows like this be held hostage by minor streaming services that very few want to subscribe to. It’s the same with Outlander, its UK viewer base has nearly vanished since it moved from Prime Video to MGM+. I don’t hear anybody talk about that show any more.

Great news, as the third season never got a dvd release on it’s own and currently costs £20.00 on amazon prime to buy. Now I’m glad I hadn’t gotten round to doing that yet.
