Netflix has, once again, renewed the critically acclaimed and darkly funny political drama ‘The Diplomat‘ early, handing it a 4th Season ahead of its Season 3 premiere later this year.
Season 1 introduced us to Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic mansion… not so much… Alongside dealing with potential wars, corruption, international crises, and strategic alliances, she’s also trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
Season 2 wrapped with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. (SPOILERS…) After Kate uncovered that Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) was involved in the Season 1 attack on a British naval ship, the finale took a dramatic turn as Hal called President Rayburn (Michael McKean) to expose Grace’s involvement. The revelation was so staggering that Rayburn suffered a fatal heart attack… Meaning that Vice President Penn was now President Penn…
Season 3 is set to be something of a ‘West Wing’ reunion, as Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale) joins the cast as Todd Penn, the husband of President Grace Penn, played by his former co-star, Allison Janney.
“Season 3 flips the chessboard,” said Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn. “Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want.”
The third season will also see the return of David Gyasi as UK Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as CIA station chief Eidra Park, Rory Kinnear as UK Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge, and Ato Essandoh as Stuart Heyford, deputy chief of mission of the US Embassy in London.
Debora Cahn is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer. She returns to Season 3 alongside executive producers Janice Williams, Keri Russell, and Alex Graves.
‘The Diplomat‘ Season 3 does not have an exact premiere date but is set to land in Autumn 2025 on Netflix worldwide. Season 4 should arrive in 2026. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
