We’re back with a brand new episode of the Geektown Radio podcast! This week, I’m joined by the always-entertaining Domingos, as we dive into everything from ballet-trained assassins and martial arts reboots, to chaotic hospitals and supernatural institutes, plus all the latest TV news and UK premiere highlights.
Ana de Armas Kicks Off in Ballerina
Domingos brings us his review of Ballerina, the action-packed John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas (Knives Out, Blonde), alongside Keanu Reeves, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane. Packed with stylish violence, snow-soaked showdowns, and even ice-skate combat, it’s a brutal and beautifully shot expansion of the Wick universe.
“She’s got this ability to be vulnerable, but with incredible strength. It’s even better than I expected.”
Karate Kid: Legends Bridges the Generations
We also chat Karate Kid: Legends, which unites Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, and Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in a fresh take that merges the original films, Cobra Kai, and the 2010 reboot. Domingos spotlights breakout performances from Sadie Stanley and Aramis Knight, calling the film a smart and heartfelt continuation of the franchise.
TV Reviews: St. Denis Medical, The Rookie, Rick & Morty, and Bosch: Legacy
Dave checks out St. Denis Medical, the mockumentary sitcom from the team behind Superstore, which turns the chaos of an understaffed hospital into comedy gold. We also talk about the return of The Rookie Season 7 and Rick & Morty Season 8, plus Dave’s nearing the end of his Bosch: Legacy binge and gearing up for the Ballard spin-off.
News Highlights: Cancellations, King, and Crookhaven
This week’s entertainment headlines include:
- Cancellations: The Cleaning Lady and Alert: Missing Persons Unit are both axed at FOX
- Renewals: Trigger Point returns for Season 4, Strike to adapt The Running Grave
- New projects: Crookhaven, a BBC family drama about a school for young con artists, is coming in 2026
We also spotlight The Institute, a new Stephen King adaptation starring Ben Barnes, Mary-Louise Parker, and Julian Richings, launching this July on MGM+. Domingos compared it to Stranger Things, saying it sounded “grounded, dark, and with serious potential.”
