Paramount+ UK & Ireland has announced a new original thriller-mystery series ‘The Revenge Club’ (working title), starring Martin Compston (Line of Duty, Mayflies), Aimée-Ffion Edwards (Slow Horses, Peaky Blinders) and Meera Syal (Mrs Sidhu Investigates, The Kumars at No. 42).
Adapted from the upcoming debut novel The Othello Club by J.D. Pennington, ‘The Revenge Club’ is a sharply written, darkly comic thriller centring on six strangers brought together by a divorce support group. Each is dealing with betrayal and heartbreak, but what begins as shared therapy quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. United by pain, they form an unlikely bond… and a pact for revenge. As their actions escalate from petty pranks to deadly “accidents”, the line between justice and murder becomes dangerously blurred.
Joining Compston, Edwards and Syal are Sharon Rooney (Barbie, Jerk), Douglas Henshall (Shetland, Who Is Erin Carter?), Chaneil Kular (Sex Education, Protection), and Amit Shah (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, Happy Valley). Aoife Kennan and Rob Malone play the detectives investigating the group, alongside Niamh Walsh, Wil Coban, Christina Bennington, and Eoin Duffy.
The series is written by Gabbie Asher (Sanctuary, The Tattooist of Auschwitz), who also executive produces alongside Pennington. Writers include Matt Jones (The Split) and Adam Usden (Lupin). Tim Kirkby (Fleabag, Don’t Forget the Driver) directs alongside Daniel O’Hara (Stay Close) with Margot Gavan Duffy producing.
Commissioned by Paramount+ UK’s Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar, and produced by Gaumont UK with international distribution by Fremantle, the show is described as “a sharp, stylish and darkly funny thriller” and “an emotional ride for anyone who’s ever had their heart broken.”
