‘Dept. Q’ Checks Back In As Netflix Renews Mystery Drama For Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has confirmed that Dept. Q will return for a second season, meaning fans can once again follow Matthew Goode (The Crown, Downton Abbey) as the grumpy but brilliant Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck. The crime drama, created by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit), proved a hit on the streamer, spending six weeks in the Global Top Ten.

Season 2 sees the return of Morck’s misfit team, including Alexej Manvelov (Jack Ryan) as Akram, Leah Byrne (Somewhere Boy) as Rose, and Jamie Sives (Guilt) as Hardy. Production will again be based in Edinburgh, a city that serves almost as a character in its own right within the series.

Based on the bestselling novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen, ‘Dept. Q’ follows a specialist police unit tucked away in the basement of an Edinburgh station, tasked with re-investigating cold cases previously deemed unsolvable. Blending dark humour with gripping procedural storytelling, the series digs deep into both the mysteries at hand and the personal struggles of its detectives.

“I’d like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Dept. Q’s storylines,” says Goode. “We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!”

Netflix executives Mona Qureshi and Manda Levin added: “We are raring to return to Carl Morck and his band of glorious misfits at Dept. Q. Scott Frank brought us best-in-class storytelling and thrilled Netflix audiences worldwide. We can’t wait to see what Morck and the gang uncover in Season 2 … Edinburgh, we’re back.”

Dept. Q’ Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
